Scottish Mountains Sunset from Mosser - Landscape Photo
Landscape Photo Gallery by Matt Phillips
Southern Scottish Mountains from Mosser in The Lake District, Cumbria, UK.
I photographed this sunset from Mosser in the north-west Lake District, looking north across the England–Scotland border toward the mountains of southern Scotland. The sky was alive with colour — deep oranges, soft pinks and purples, and golden light blending together like a natural “raspberry ripple.” It was one of those moments where the light changes by the second, transforming the landscape into something otherworldly.
The distant Scottish peaks stood out against the glowing horizon, their outlines softened by haze and light. From this high vantage point in Cumbria, the sense of space and scale is incredible — the view stretching across two countries yet united by one sky.
Evenings like this are what make photographing the Lake District so rewarding: a meeting of colour, land, and light that perfectly captures the atmosphere of Britain’s borderlands.
