Derwent Water I - Landscape Photo

This photograph, titled Derwent Water I, was taken in the Lake District, Cumbria, on a clear summer’s day. A wooden motorboat heads out across the shimmering surface of Derwent Water, the deep blue sky mirrored in the gentle ripples of the lake.

Derwent Water is one of the most picturesque of all the Cumbrian lakes — surrounded by fells, wooded shores, and ever-changing light. I wanted to capture the sense of calm movement here, where the stillness of the landscape meets the rhythm of the water. The reflections and tones of blue created a simple but striking contrast that perfectly evokes the atmosphere of the Lake District in summer.
