Ashness Jetty on Derwent Water - Landscape Photo
Landscape Photo Gallery by Matt Phillips
Wooden Jetty at Ashness, Derwent Water, Cumbria, UK.
I photographed this view of Ashness Jetty on Derwent Water in the Lake District, Cumbria, on a clear summer’s day. The wooden jetty extends out into the lake, surrounded by gently rippling blue water that mirrors the bright sky above. It’s one of the Lake District’s most photographed and peaceful spots — a place that captures the region’s timeless charm and serenity.
The Ashness Jetty lies between Keswick and Ashness Bridge and offers sweeping views across Derwent Water to the surrounding fells. The scene changes constantly with the weather — from calm reflections in early morning light to golden hues at sunset. On this day, the water was slightly choppy, giving the surface texture and movement, while the deep blue tones of sky and lake blended beautifully.
This photograph reflects what I love most about Lake District landscape photography: the balance between natural light, water, and wood — all combining to create a simple but striking composition that embodies the tranquillity and natural beauty of Cumbria’s most iconic landscapes.
