Buttermere Reflections Landscape Photo

This photograph, titled Buttermere Reflections, was taken in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Cumbria. The calm surface of Buttermere creates a near-perfect mirror, reflecting the surrounding mountains — including the well-known peak of Haystacks — and the line of trees that fringe the lake’s edge.

Although the day was cloudy, the scene was alive with vibrant green hues, enhanced by the diffused light filtering through the cloud cover. The stillness of the water and the layered textures of sky, mountain, and reflection combine to create a serene, almost timeless composition.

Located between Crummock Water and Fleetwith Pike, Buttermere is one of the most photogenic lakes in Cumbria. I’ve always been drawn to its natural symmetry and the way light and weather transform its surface — from mirror-like calm to gently rippling reflections.
