Castlerigg Stone Circle, Cumbria - Landscape Photo
Landscape Photo Gallery by Matt Phillips
Castlerigg Stone Circle in The Lake District, Cumbria, UK.
I photographed Castlerigg Stone Circle on a bright, sunny day in the Lake District, Cumbria, England. The ancient stones, arranged in a near-perfect circle, stand against a backdrop of fells and mountain peaks beneath a clear blue sky.
Castlerigg is one of Britain’s oldest stone circles, dating back to around 3000 BC, and is renowned for its striking position in a natural amphitheatre of mountains. The contrast between the weathered stones and the vibrant landscape of Cumbria was what drew me to this scene.
The sunlight that day highlighted the textures of the stones and the surrounding grass, while the mountains and fells in the distance added depth and scale. Capturing this blend of history and natural beauty makes Castlerigg a truly remarkable location for landscape photography.
